Organization Mission: To empower women and girls through education to eradicate gender based violence, with primary focus on female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM).
Female genital mutilation or cutting is the intentional removal of either all or part of the external female genitalia for non-medical reasons. According to the World Health Organization, at least 200 million women and girls have been subjected to FGM. The Population Reference Bureau estimates that more than 500,000 women and girls in the U.S. are either living with the consequences of FGM or are at risk of undergoing it. Many girls have been known to die as a result of FGM. 85% of maternal and infant mortality in Africa is the result of FGM. Now, FGM is being practiced here on American soil in many states. We want it stopped in the world, and most importantly, here in the United States.
