Our Mission: The West Side Community Organization organizes people of West Side to build collective power to advance justice and racial equity in the community for all people.

Funds raised from the Move-A-Thon will support WSCO’s work to ensure a thriving West Side for all. Your funds will support:

● Organizing for tenants’ rights – Over 50% of West Siders are renters, most of whom are people of color, and WSCO is working to ensure tenants have safe and equitable housing. Our recent work includes passing the SAFE Housing ordinance at the City of St. Paul, our COVID-19 Tenant Relief Fund, and taking legal action against a major landlord on the West Side.

● Equitable Development Scorecard – Centers the question "Who benefits?" When development comes to the west side. WSCO, in partnership with community, developed a tool that requires all new potential developments on the West Side to address how their development truly benefits the West Side. We’re working to expand the use of this tool and bring others into the work through our Action to Equity series.

● Accountability for law enforcement – In partnership with others, WSCO is working to increase transparency and accountability with the SPPD and to create a new vision for community safety alternatives.

● Support for West Side Businesses – WSCO secures funding from the City of St. Paul and others to support West Side businesses with building improvements and other needs to ensure the economic strength of our neighborhood.

● Health and environmental justice – WSCO works to promote health and environmental justice on the West Side by organizing around toxic waste sites, promoting our parks and gardens, and more.

● Responding to emerging needs – WSCO responds to the needs of our neighborhood, whether it’s supporting neighbors
in organizing their own events, providing opportunities to get involved at our monthly Voices gatherings, getting out the vote, or providing resources like our recent pop-up food drive.
