About the Dash

The 2021 7th Annual BAF Disaster Dash will be held in concurrence with the 46th Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop, an event with international attendance that will be hosted *virtually* July 11-14 by the University of Colorado Boulder Natural Hazards Center.

Because this year’s Disaster Dash will be held virtually alongside a virtual workshop, we have a unique opportunity to extend an invitation to participants around the world! A typical event sees around 100 participants and volunteers come together in beautiful Broomfield, Colorado for a summer jog or walk covering the grounds and trails near the hotel where the workshop takes place. We have traditionally encouraged virtual participation and have had dozens of virtual participants complete a 5K and raise funds to support the BAF and raise awareness about minority representation in hazards and disasters. Though this year's event will be 100% virtual, we encourage all participants to be creative in your approach to participation while operating within safety limitations given the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Proceeds from the event support the Bill Anderson Fund mission to expand the number of professionals from historically underrepresented groups in the fields of hazards and disaster research and practice. This year, your support of and participation in this event is more important than ever. Funds will directly ensure delivery of robust programming for our Fellows and Alumni. Join us in July and run or walk where you are to send a clear message on the vital need for additional representation in our field.
