Courtney's Crew is back for 2023 and has been upgraded to "Courtney and Tracy's Crew!"
Courtney and Tracy are friends and colleagues at Regions Hospital. Tracy got her invitation to the very exclusive brain cancer club this past year, so we decided to join forces for an even bigger and better team effort this year. We had fun with wig photos for you all.
For more info on our team:
Courtney's brain cancer journey started in 2020 at age 29 while she was studying medicine in Thailand. She was diagnosed with anaplastic astrocytoma, an "incurable (for now!)" malignant glioma brain cancer and has been through two surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy with good response.
Courtney is now a hospital medicine physician who spends her time outside of the hospital raising awareness for brain cancer, patient advocacy, and invisible illness/disability through writing and public speaking.
Courtney is the creator of the blog: Elephant, Lotus, Brain Tumor and author of the award-winning memoir, Difficult Gifts. See more of her story on www.elephantlotusbraintumor.com
Tracy’s brain cancer story started November 24, 2022 at the age of 42.
Tracy was running a Thanksgiving 5K race when she had a seizure on the side of the road. Subsequent imaging studies at Regions ED showed a left sided frontal brain tumor later identified as an Oligodendroglioma.
Tracy is post awake craniotomy and post active treatment (concurrent treatment with chemotherapy and radiation) and will be starting maintenance phase chemo in early April.
Hi Friends!!
Courtney loves participating in the annual MN Brain Tumor 5K. This year will be her third event. Over the past few years, we have annually raised more than $5000 for brain tumor research. How awesome is that?! This year, our team will be even better as we fundraise together with Tracy!
Will you join us in 2023 to walk/run/swim/bike/dance/yoga your way to a 5K? Together, we can raise money and awareness for brain tumors, these nasty buggers.
PS: We know many of our colleagues will have to work during the time of the physical event. We also have many teammates living out of MN we would love to join us. We plan to host a "virtual" option as well where you all can do your own 5K at anytime, anywhere on May 21 and share photos with us! We will compile a fun collection of live and virtual team photos :)
Plus- all money raised from this event goes directly to brain tumor research. WOW!
Best,
Courtney + Tracy
100% of every dollar raised from this event will go toward important brain tumor research, through the Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research & Information, Inc. 100% of event costs are generously paid for by local and national sponsors.
