And then one day everything changed.  I remember the call from my doctor in February 2020 telling me I had neuroendocrine cancer.   I had no idea what neuroendocrine cancer was.  My sister Kira was listening in on the conversation and started Googling it right away. I learned very quickly what it was. 

 

Unfortunately, I’ll be living with neuroendocrine cancer for the rest of my life.  It is not if the cancer comes back, it is when. After five years, it came back in the spring, and I had to have a liver ablation.  I have been very lucky to have amazing doctors at Rutgers and now at NYU as well as my guardian angel, Dr. Pyrsopoulos who has been with me every step of this journey and guided me to make the right decisions. 

 

The Neuroendocrine Cancer Awareness Network (NCAN) has played a big role in providing resources for me.  I’ve attended several patient conferences learning more about this rare and often misdiagnosed disease. 

 

NCAN has been a source of hope, education, and support for the Neuroendocrine Cancer (NET) community since 2003.  Because of this, I am excited to be participating in the 2025 Strides for Stripes Zebra Walk Across America. Every stride we take is a step in the right direction to improving the lives of thousands who suffer from Neuroendocrine Cancer (NET).
