Matt was diagnosed with a low-grade glioma in his right frontal lobe in November 2008. After a complete resection, he continued his life with his amazing attitude and huge heart completely intact. In September of 2012, his brain cancer recurred. That November, he became the first patient in Dr. Okada's low-grade vaccine trial at Hillman Cancer Center; and he and Emilie, his fiancé, relocated from Florida to Pittsburgh. After almost two years into the trial, Matt and Emilie returned to Florida, and Matt’s tumor remained stable until March 2015. New growth required another surgery at UCSF (Dr. Berger) on May 14, 2015. Matt's attitude and outlook remained positive, and he returned to work after twelve weeks. He currently takes Affinitor (RAD001), to slow the growth of the remaining tumors. This is done with the hope that a better treatment is on the horizon. The continued love and support that he and his family have received throughout are incredible. We are truly thankful for all of the wonderful caring people in our lives. Please help us find a cure!!!
