MY STORY
Howdy everyone!

My name is Natalie Coleman, and I am a 3rd year PhD student in the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at Texas A&M University.

I am so excited to be participating in the 2023 9th Annual BAF Disaster Dash 5K! Money raised from this event will be used to promote and support hazard and disaster mitigation for communities of color and other vulnerable populations.

I have been a BAF Fellow since Fall 2021. In my research, I focus on exploring the social disparities and risk inequalities that arise from infrastructure outages during disasters. My goal is to develop a comprehensive understanding of the physical and social vulnerabilities within communities and to use this knowledge to establish more equitable services. To achieve this, I use multiple data sources to track disruptions in critical facilities, promote transparency in data collection and analysis, and take into account human values in the restoration of services. The BAF cultivates a community of disaster research scholars to support my research and professional growth.

RAISING MONEY FOR...
The 2023 9th Annual BAF Disaster Dash will be held in concurrence with the 48th Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop, an event with international attendance that will be hosted July 9-12 by the University of Colorado Boulder Natural Hazards Center.

Proceeds from the event will support the Bill Anderson Fund mission to expand the number of professionals from historically underrepresented groups in the fields of hazards and disaster research and practice. Funds raised during this event ensure the delivery of robust programming for our Fellows and Alumni. Join us in July and run or walk where you are to send a clear message on the vital need for additional representation in our field.
