I am so excited to be participating in the 2021 Strides for Stripes Zebra Walk Across America. This cause is very important and has a special place in my heart. Every stride we take is a step in the right direction to improving the lives of thousands who suffer from Neuroendocrine Cancer (NET).
Diagnosed three years ago with high grade stage 4 Neuroendocrine Tumors in my small intestine and liver, I was determined to live every day to the fullest! Lucky for me, I lived near an INCREDIBLE group of doctors who specialize in this rare cancer. With this TEAM behind me I have been able to climb mountains, fly gliders, snowshoe in the Sierras, drive a race car, hike not one but TWO one-hundred mile trails, ski and LIVE the type of life I want!
But……few have these opportunities because specialized care for this rare cancer is as rare as the cancer itself. Patient advocacy plays an important role in teaching the patient how to self advocate, how to ask for the treatments they may need and to seek out the specialists their disease requires.
Please help by sponsoring me. Or, better yet, join me on my walk!! I will be walking November 10th at 6pm at Marie Kerr Park. I will be walking three weeks after my eighth surgery for this strange and complex cancer. I may not walk far, I’m sure to walk slow but walk I will!!
Together we will make a difference.
