Hi! This March I will be running in the Jerusalem Marathon as part of Team Darkaynu.
As many of you know, this year I am studying in the Overseas Program at Midreshet Lindenbaum, furthering my religious studies and connecting to the land of Israel and my Jewish heritage. One of the unique qualities about Midreshet Lindenbaum is that there are 5 different learning programs being conducted in the building at the same time. One of the programs is Darkaynu. Darkaynu is an amazing program instituted to allow young men and women with special needs to experience a gap year in Israel. Prior to the establishment of this program, there were no opportunities for these men and women to experience a full year learning in a yeshiva or seminary in Israel. The Darkaynu Program provides each student with the opportunity to work, learn, do Chessed, create meaningful relationships and tour Israel.
The women’s Darkaynu Program is based in Midreshet Lindenbaum. The girls in the program live in our dorms and learn in some of our classes. They accompany us on all of our Shabbatonim and trips. They are our peers, our chevrutot and our friends. I have the privilege to learn every Tuesday night with Lauren, who has benefitted from Darkaynu for several years. Lauren and I chose to learn a book about Chessed in the Parsha; it is a meaningful way to apply the weekly parsha to our daily lives.
Team Darkaynu in the Jerusalem Marathon is raising money for their scholarship fund so that many other young men and women will able to experience the incredible benefits of this program. Any amount makes a difference. Thank you in advance!
