MY STORY
On October 19th, 2019, I am participating in the Strides for Stripes Walk to raise funds for programs that support Neuroendocrine and Carcinoid Cancer (NET) patients and to raise awareness of rare Neuroendocrine Tumors such as paraganglioma and pheochromocytoma.

This year, I am walking for myself, my first cousin – Shawndell, over 175,000 individuals that are aware of their condition, and the infinite amount individuals who are unaware.

If left untreated, these conditions can be deadly. Since the symptoms of this condition can be as common as a headache or high blood pressure, it is often overlooked. It is common for doctors to think horses when they hear hooves instead of considering the possibility of zebras. Zebras have now become our way of reminding doctors of their existence although it may be uncommon.

6 emergency room visits and 3 urgent care visits with complaints of night fever, high blood pressure, R.abdominal pain, and migraines and still being sent home as stress being the cause of my symptoms at the age of 23.

It took a 104 degree fever, 130 HR, 153/110 BP before I was hospitalized for a kidney infection.

A CAT Scan for kidney stones lead to the detection of a mass.

3 CAT Scans and 6 different specialists later, a pheochromocytoma on my r. adrenal gland was diagnosed only after being told that my cousin Shawndell also has a mass.

The chance of diagnosis is 2 in 1 million. Shawnee and I were the 2.

Please join us in our attempt to raise awareness and to raise funds to help patients suffering from this condition like Shawndell and me.

If you cannot join, please donate or repost. Any and all efforts would be greatly appreciated. It takes just a few clicks/hours to make a difference <3

RAISING MONEY FOR...
the Neuroendocrine Cancer Awareness Network. Money raised from the Strides for Stripes event goes directly to programs that assist Neuroendocrine and Carcinoid Cancer (NET) patients, such as our NET Cancer Hotline, Patient Conferences, and other programs that help neuroendocrine cancer patients.

We're a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of Neuroendocrine Cancer, providing support for caregivers and people with NETs, and funding for NET cancer research. Since 2003, it has been our mission, or as we like to say, our passion, to educate and support the NET community as a whole. That’s our thing.
