Visions of the land of Israel often conjure up images of a country on the Mediterranean Sea that is always warm, where the existence of winter is hard to imagine. In reality, however, the people of the Middle East often experience harsh winters with cold, rain, and snow. During these harsh months of winter, thousands of Israeli children suffer without basic essentials, such as a winter coat to protect against the cold. It is hard to imagine in today’s day and age for a child to be outdoors, shivering in the winter cold, because the child’s family literally cannot afford a coat for that unfortunate child. Thousands of families suffer from such extreme poverty, and so COATS FOR COLD KIDS, a division of The Leeba Gavriella Fund for the Needy, is tackling this problem head on.
Based on Lois’ mantra of always watching out for the underprivileged and needy, and armed with her lifelong concern and desire to take action on their behalf, we present to you COATS FOR COLD KIDS (“CCK”). CCK’s goal is to raise $100,000 each year, to purchase as many winter coats as possible for children ages 3-16, children who have likely never had a warm, winter coat.
Next time you walk outside in the cold, and protectively bundle up, please remember that for some there is no keeping warm. PLEASE HELP US CHANGE THAT! We plead with you to contribute $10, $18 (Chai), $36 (double Chai), $72 (4 times Chai), or even better, $100. So that you can REALLY feel good about your magnanimous help, anyone contributing this latter amount ($100), will receive an anonymous picture of a child receiving or actually wearing one of these good quality coats which your generosity will have helped provide. Every time you look at that picture, we are certain that you will experience a warm feeling throughout your being, certainly as warm as the sensation that this grateful child will experience everytime he or she dons this coat WHAT A GREAT MITZVAH!
