MY STORY
When I was just 11, I heard that new camp would be opening, one that fully integrates special needs kids with typical campers. I knew that I had to try it out. It worked out that I was able to get a spot in the trial run of the camp - and I absolutely loved it.
Ever since that first year in 2010, I’ve been returning to Camp Kaylie, first as a camper and subsequently as staff. Camp Kaylie is my second home. It has transformed me as a person, honing my sensitivity to others while at the same time giving me the best summers of my life. I learned how to interact with others who are different than me, both special needs’ kids and typical peers who have a different background than I do. Kaylie is fully integrated - the campers eat together, do activities together, and even sleep in the same bunk. All of the lessons I learned were built into the camp system of activities and fun. I did not realize how much I learned each summer until I reflected back on where I started because it was learning through fun.
I am looking forward to running for Kaylie in this years Jerusalem Marathon. I hope you can help give other children the same wonderful opportunities I have had in camp by supporting me.
