Our beautiful baby boy, Skyler Jak was born not breathing. He was revived quickly and every possible intervention was made to save him.

 

He suffered from severe HIE and seizures that were very difficult to control with medication. His MRI showed extensive brian damage.

 

We were able to take him home with Trinity Kids hospice care. Their team was invaluable to us as we tried to navigate the rest of his life at home. The support of the Doctors, nurses, chaplain, and counselors helped our family to focus on spending precious time together with the assurance that Skyler’s medical care and our emotional needs were being met. 

 

Skyler passed away in his mommy’s arms, skin to skin with daddy next to us. Trinity then stepped in to help us handle the details of what happens after so we could be in the moment and say good bye.

 

We participated in this event last year. I was 4 months pregnant with our healthy, happy baby girl Violet Sky, and still won a medal for Skyler. The entire Butterfly 5k experience was cathartic for us. This is an event we will look forward to attending indefinitely as a family, and with friends. 

 

I am so excited to be participating in the Butterfly Walk/Run & Flutter in Long Beach. Money raised from this event will be used to raise much needed money for my beneficiary that provides care to children that can't find a cure and need hospice care.
